Journal with me: January Reflections

The longest month of the year is finally over. I though it would never happen – it felt like all the 365 days of the year are happening within those 31 days. I am so glad it is over, but it was also a wild ride.

Despite being so busy month, January gave me clarity and new ideas. Starting by clearing my e-mail, I sat down and spend some hours catching up to V.E. Schwab’s newsletter – it was so peaceful and kind of addicting. Victoria is an amazing writer and even just hew newsletter made me want to come back to writing. I am still inspired and want to keep this feeling throughout the year.

And here we are. I’m listening to the album “Trickster” by my favourite Erdbeeren (sadly not active for more than 10 years (rest in peace, Fumiya-san)) and I am ready to write, with her Majesty – Melancholy – being by my side today.

On Work

In the corporate world January is super busy – all those reports, kick-offs etc. are taking all the space there is and you are to plan ahead like December will be here anytime soon. And even though I was excited for a few things, I also felt drained from projects and stuff happening around. I am officially working within one of the biggest media and advertising companies in the world and I am looking forward to gaining even more insights on the industry.

We’ve got our winter party, which was held in a fancy club in Sofia – C’est La Vie. I also found out that my alcohol limit is getting down – 2 glasses of wine are enough for me to start talking. ๐Ÿ˜€ Nevertheless, I spent a great time with my colleagues and the best ladies from my team.

On Travel

And the biggest work+life update: I am off to spend almost the whole month of May in Germany. I will be working half of the time – first 2 weeks, and then enjoy 2 weeks holiday with my friend. I will also spend my birthday there. I can’t be more excited to go.

Coming back to January though, I spent 2 days in Stara Zagora with my mom. She went to visit some friends, and at the same time I spent time with my lovely friend Moni. She almost convinced me to start playing Pokรฉmon Go, but I resisted again.

There is a very nice place in Stara Zagora, which sells our favourite bubble tea and I should confess that I am jealous – there is no such place in Plovdiv. We also visited a Serbian restaurant and I learnt that the next time I book a place, I also need to use Google street view – we ended up sleeping in a nice hotel, but the location was super tricky.

On Art

Thanks to my best friend Lilly, I actually sat down and watched a movie with her. And not just any movie – we watched “When Harry met Sally” and I won’t lie – I don’t know why I never watched it till now. Meg Ryan was one of my favourite actresses when I was growing up and I just loved this movie so much. Now I want to watch again “You’ve Got Mail” and “Sleepless in Seattle”.

On the music front, I enjoyed Ben Barns’ first album “Where The Lights Gets In” – this guy not only can act and be one of the best actors out there, but he can also sing. I loved every single song from this album. I was also reminded of how much I love listening Japanese rock and visual kei – I was able to locate all the music I have – LOST ASH, Erdbeeren, Dir En Grey, Luzmelt, Anli Pollicino… and of course my top favourite – GUILD. I still love ใ€Œใ‚ใฎๆ—ฅๅ›ใซ้€ขใ‚ใชใ‘ใ‚Œใฐ ๆ„›ใ—ใ•ใ•ใˆ็Ÿฅใ‚‰ใชใ„ใพใพใ€ (If I hadn’t met you that day, I wouldn’t have even known what love is) and can listen to it on repeat for a very long time.

I’m not particularly happy that I managed to read only 2 books, but considering how much time I was spending just working, we can call it a win. One of the books was “Onyx Storm” by Rebecca Yarros, so all is good.

And that’s all for now, folks. How was your January – anything fancy? Feel free to share with me in the comments.

xoxo
