I can’t believe that I’m typing this and that it is happening.
I still remember the time when I heard about Twitter – it was relatively new platform and it made me feel more comfortable to be online. To the point where I was visiting the website every single day. More than Facebook, and later Instagram, I felt like home in Twitter.
On Twitter I shouldn’t have to be fancy, photographing stuff, looking for angles, trying to impress… I could simply write down even what I’m listening to and it was what it was. Great days, definitely. And then it started falling down.
I’m the type of person that doesn’t want to see random stuff – I want to see what the people I follow are posting, and of course retweets were okay. But then it started showing what people are liking, random stuff out of nowhere and the beginning of the ads. I still managed though.
Until the last 2-3 weeks. The limit of how many things you look was the cherry on top. I felt like I’m in a prison and people are monitoring my every step – how much I will scroll, what I will see… It felt too much.
And this week Elon Musk announced that they are rebranding – Twitter is becoming X. Ads, subscriptions, color changes, limitations… Yes, this is no longer the Twitter I knew and it is definitely an end of an era for me. I don’t feel like using it anymore.
And it’s sad. This was once my most favourite place on Internet and somehow it was turned to the next social media that is looking for your money. And soon, it may even stop being social media – only a private club for fancy rich people.
What do you think about this rebranding? Isn’t it too much?
